Who is Vidya Yoga Retreat?

A team of likeminded individuals gathered to support you while you begin your journey. Learning to listen to yourself, your gut and connecting the two. Breathe purpose back into your life. Heal and become the greatest version of yourself. It all begins with you and believing you can. I have found my passion and would love nothing more than to share my world with you. Lets yoga, surf, fish and have fun together. Vxx

What’s included?

A week filled with yoga, surfing, nutritious food and a lot of laughs. A chance to explore meet new friends in a relaxed, fun and safe space. All flights and transfers to and from Bali, food and accommodation in Villa Oeaggaut are included.

The Yoga and Wellness Experience is an important element of your retreat. You will leave feeling refreshed, nourished, rejuvenated and inspired. Along with tools and knowledge to incorporate  into your life with a sense of contentment.

What is the weather like in Bali?

Being just 8 degrees south of the equator, Bali has a fairly even climate year round. Average year-round temperature stands at around 30°C with a humidity level of about 85%.
Day time temperatures at low elevations vary between 20–33°C although it can be much cooler than that in the mountains. The west monsoon is in place from approximately October to April, and this can bring significant rain, particularly from December to March. Outside of the monsoon period, humidity is relatively low and any rain is unlikely in lowland areas.

Do I need to speak the language Bahasa?

We would love for you to learn some basics before you arrive, see below.

When asking for something, always start your question with ‘Permisi’ (Excuse me) :

Ex : Permisi Pak, pantai ada di mana ? (Excuse me Sir, where is the beach?)

Do I need an international licence?

To drive in Indonesia, you will require an international licence. On the island they are a little more relaxed!

How do get to Rote?

Getting to Villa Oenggaut is easier than almost all other surf and yoga resorts in Indonesia! Flights from Bali to Kupang taking 1 hour 45 minutes, with airlines Garuda and Wings. Dependant of your flight you have the option to stay in Kupang, which we can arrange our preferred hotel which is clean, affordable and close to the airport. Otherwise we normally prefer to get straight to the island! Next we catch a ferry which can be between 1-2 hours or another short flight Kupang to Rote 30 minutes.
Once you arrive on the Island you will be greeted by one of our staff who will transport you and your luggage including your boards, straight to the villa. This  is a beautiful scenic drive through the island with small villages and beautiful beaches. A representative from Villa Oenggaut will arrange all your travel to the villa.

Do I need a visa?

You do not need a visa to enter Indonesia for visits of up to 30 days. If you are planning on staying in Indonesia for more than 30 days, you should apply for a visit before you travel or get a Visa On Arrival at a cost of $35 US. This type of visa is valid for 30 days and can be extended once, for a maximum of 30 days. Giving you 60 days in total, this can be obtained by applying with to local immigration office in Indonesia.

What age groups come to your retreats?

Our offer is open to all ages however ages are usually between 20’s to  40’s.

Is there a minimum age?

Guest under 18 years of age must be accompanied unless otherwise prearranged with Vidya Yoga Retreat.

Can I travel solo?

Hell yes! We encourage you to take the plunge, this is often when the biggest growth occurs when we are alone and open to meeting new people.

Can I travel with my family?

Yes. If you’re bringing your family and want something outside of our policy please email us at veritycoonan@gmail.com to let us know  your requirements.

Can I bring my children?

Yes. On specific prearranged retreats.

How much does it cost to bring children?

Kids under 3 free
Kids ages 3-6 $10 per day includes food
Kids ages 6-12 $18 per day includes food

Where do they stay?

Children at these prices will be staying in your room with a bed on the floor.

Will there be a nanny?

Yes, a Nanny will be available everyday of the retreat from 8am-9:30pm for $15 per day

Will there be children on all the retreats?

No this is only prearranged on specific retreats

How much extra money do I require on retreat?

Extras will be any other food, snacks, drinks outside the villa. There are a few great cafes to explore. Extra activities, spa treatments or shopping! The Villa offers credit card facilities and easy payment transfers.

Do you offer discounts?

We have priced our retreats at an amazing price,  we trust you see the value. If you have a booking for your own group please let us know and we can discuss.

What if I’ve never done yoga?

Perfect! You will be coming to the right place, we love beginners and aim to make you feel right at home.

What if I have injuries?

Please be honest in your application and let us know the details but more importantly we want you to know your own body and limits. We will assist in your recovery.

Can I bring my own yoga matt?

Of course! We encourage you to bring you own however we do have our own supply of awesome matts for you.

Is it mandatory to participate in all activities and yoga?

No however we know the more you participate and are connected with the group the more fun you’ll have! We are here to support you in all your decisions.

Do I need to know how to surf?

No, learning is so much fun as long as your prepared to laugh. There may be nowhere else on earth that delivers the consistency and quality of waves found in Rote, Indonesia. From fast scary barrels, to mellow hidden gems, there is something for every level of surfer here.

Can I bring my own surfboard?

Yes yes and yes! Please see travel arrangements we recommend taking the ferry if you have your boards. Generally, on the way over we all take the ferry together.

What are the flight allowances if I bring my own board?

Luggage allowance with Garuda Airlines Bali – Kupang 20kg.
* Surf Boards are usually allowed for free but this can be subject to change.
Luggage allowance with Wings air Kupang – Rote 10 kg extra weight is very cheap 1,5$ per Kg.
*Surf board to be paid extra 200,000 IDR.

Do I need to be a good swimmer?

No not necessarily, some water awareness is important.

Can I book a shared room if I’m travelling alone?

Yes of course. We will pair you up with guests of similar interests where possible.

Can I request my own room?

Its your retreat so if having your own room makes you more comfortable we recommend it. We do suggest booking in quickly to secure your room for the specific dates.

Do you have wifi?

Yes, the villa and most places on the island have wifi however on the Island it can drop in and out.

Do I need an Indonesian sim card?

It can be good if you prefer your own wifi.

What is the food like?

Delicious and nutritious, we aim to fuel your bodies and leave you feeling satisfied. We have created a menu to suit all body types and requirements. In the attend form please describe any special requirements.

What if I have food intolerances?

Please advise of any intolerances before you arrive and we will accommodate. Our menu is predominately plant based meals

Is alcohol available?

Yes, alcohol is available at an extra charge. We have a range of alcohol available to purchase from our onsite bar which has a delicious range of cocktails and wine. You are also welcome to bring a bottle of your favourite duty free purchases and our staff can pour your favourite drop! However, our aim is to nourish the body with fresh juices, herbal teas and coconuts! We like a clean body to clean the mind.

Can I bring my own food?

If you have something special you require feel free. Any snacks are great but generally we have you covered. Local island food is delicious!
