Moon me twice

This time of year is so powerful for all of us.

In the northern hemispheres this Full “Worm” Moon embodies the start of the spring equinox. The last full moon of the winter, it is a potent time for rejuvenation. The ground softens and the worms begin to peak through the surface and symbolize new beginnings. Roots start to push their way up through the soil, and half the world experiences a re-birth as it awakens from its winter slumber.

In the southern hemisphere this Full “Harvest” Moon embraces the autumnal equinox. This is a pivotal time of year to celebrate the fruits of your summer efforts. A time to pause and appreciate, before you dig in before the stiffening winter months ahead.

The name of each moon is ultimately irrelevant.

Blogger Patti Wigington shares that,  “In most neo-Pagan and Wiccan traditions, the names given to the various moon cycles are based upon a couple of different sources. Some come to us from the Native American tribes of North America, and others are rooted in Celtic and western European mythology.”

She goes on to say how most lunar titles were originated as a result of seasonal, agricultural markers. And since our hemispheres are in opposing seasons it doesn’t make sense for the September “Harvest” Moon in the North, to be the same for the September Full Moon in the South.

March is unique as we have two full moons to tap into. After a rare February with no Full Moon, March has geared us up for much reflection on the 1/2nd and 31st.

What is the significance of a full moon… why should I care?

Full Moons have a strong spiritual force and when we do not tune into their potential and properly harness their power, we can often find ourselves battling adverse effects.

All objects both celestial and earthly emit frequencies, some more tangible then others. These physical attributes and subtle-frequencies affect us in varying degrees at a physical and subconscious level.

The Spiritual Science and Research Foundation says that:

“The frequencies emanating from the Moon affect the frequencies of the mental body, i.e. mind of human beings. By ‘mind’ we mean our feelings, emotions and desires. The mind consists of the conscious mind and the sub-conscious mind. Within the sub-conscious mind we have a number of impressions that are embedded that decide our basic nature and personality. We are however not aware of the thoughts or impressions in our sub-conscious mind. These impressions get collected over a number of lifetimes… and are the catalysts for all our thoughts and subsequent actions.”

In other words, our subconscious thoughts largely influence our tangible actions.

And, the gravitational power of a full moon can powerfully influence our subtle emotional state and therefore our actions.

When we are aware of these influences and how we are affected by them we can prepare accordingly on how to be most productive, positive and aligned with our highest selves during this time.

The full moon is a time to reap your rewards, and birth your vision into the world. It is a time to connect and celebrate with community.

If you are a creative it is the time to bounce ideas off of your collective and dedicate time to pouring your soul into your craft. Your talent center, and creative genius will be heightened and calling for focus, attention and action.

The same principles can be applied to any discipline, the idea is simply to harness the gravitational pull of the moon and allow the energy forces that reside within you to rise up and out toward it.

Adversely, if actions are left undirected or they are not harnessed – you may experience negative effects. The force of the moon will draw out your innate characteristics, therefore if there are dominant personality traits such as anger, greed, lust etc. then they too may surface and take over our thoughts and furthermore manifest into actions.

For example, a recovering alcoholic, drug addict or ex-smoker will experience stronger thoughts dedicated to these less than ideal desirables, during this time of the month.

It is important to understand the effects of a full moon for a few reasons:

  • To work with the forces in the universe that assist us naturally with our productivity
  • To tap into our innate characteristics and consciously direct our personal power
  • To prepare for adverse emotional effects and tap into a heightened awareness

We have TWO full moons this March and therefore can experience significant gains in our personal and professional life OR increased distraction, leading to less than desirable results.

Prepare yourself properly for this month ahead and go dance with the vast power of the infinite universe.

With love to inspire + nourish + entertain
